Sustainable construction uses low environmental impact, nontoxic materials. Sustainable design creates spaces that are smaller and can be utilized for more than one purpose. Keeping the principles of reduce, reuse and recycle from site planning and design through the entire construction process helps keep waste to a minimum.

Reduce

One of the best ways to conserve resources is to build smaller with more attention to detail. Building smaller uses less materials and consumes less energy than the typical new home. Smaller homes built right with the best materials will have less impact on the environment.

Reducing the amount of volatile organic compounds (VOC), formaldehyde and other toxins present in various construction materials make for a healthier home. Low or no VOC paints, Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs), Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) and other foams are just a few of the products we use. Whole house air exchangers provide continuous fresh air.

Choose Natural Materials

Natural materials stand the test of time. They won’t need to be replaced in a few years and offer lasting beauty and character to a home. Choose flooring in any wood species (even cork), as well as acid stained concrete. Granite or quartz countertops are both beautiful and durable. Custom wood cabinetry can last 50+ years.

Recycle

Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) and other OSB Products

  • 100% Recyclable!
  • Lumber usage decreased by 77%
  • Less energy used reduces CO2 emissions
  • Less waste and scraps generated
  • “Engineered Wood”, no old-growth forests harvested
  • No urea formaldehydes, no ozone depleting HCFC’s or CFC’s

Alternative Products

Products such as glass and paperstone counter tops are made from recycled materials. They have a unique beauty, but tend to be costlier than most granite and quartz products.

Jobsite Waste

During our build process, PEA Builders recycles when possible, chooses products that involve less waste, and donates items from tear downs… choosing to be good stewards of what we’ve been given.
